What Is A Hatchback

A hatchback is considered to be either a 3 door or sport back 5 doors if there are 2 doors at the front and the rear boot lid and glass open together. 3 doors are always considered hatchbacks while vehicles that have an additional 2 rear passenger doors are also hatchbacks, but are also called a Sportback. Due to size differences city cars and estates are not considered hatchbacks.

Some of the most popular hatchbacks include the Ford Fiesta available as a three-door and five doors, the new Audi A3 is also a hatchback, larger hatchback or sport backs such as the Vauxhall Insignia and Ford Mondeo are technically hatchbacks because of the rear glass opening with the boot despite their substantial size over the Skoda Fabia.

Benefits of a hatchback

The typical hatchback reduces the length of the car making it easier to manoeuvre and park, hot hatchbacks have become very popular since the 1980s offering increased performance in small 3 doors and 5 door family cars that have been stripped out and enhanced for a raw driving experience to rival sports cars on a budget.
