Abarth was founded in 1949 by Carlo Abarth in the town of Bologna, Italy and takes its logo from its creators' star sign, Scorpio. The design of each car is based on Italian taste, class and contemporary style, as well as the Abarth signature - agile, ferocious & surprisingly fast engines. Abarth’s parent company Fiat have developed some of their very normal road-going cars into much more exciting and better looking versions, like the Abarth 500 which has now been developed into a rag-top.
For instance, a normal Fiat 500 1.2 litre Popstar will have 69bhp, and Abarth have pumped it with juice and created an 180bhp Abarth 500 Competizione which can get from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds and has a weight to hp ratio of 5.8kg/hp. Basically, you have yourselves a rocket.
This summer you can order an Abarth 595C Turismo with the option of making it a convertible with a rag-top, giving a little nod to the vintage 500 cars.
The different options on your Abarth 500 have grown with new model versions added to the range such as the Competizione and the Turismo, which have varying specifications.
There is a new-design Abarth 124 Spider (based on the Mazda MX-5 car), which looks absolutely stunning and has 170bhp which means it achieves 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds and has a weight to hp ratio of 6.2kg/hp. Not forgetting the interiors, which look very much like an Alfa Romeo 4C, and has a great sporty look, with a bright red and black instrument cluster colour scheme which is emulated throughout the rest of the cabin, including the gear stick and 'Sport' switch.
They are very unique cars and if you like the retro look of a Fiat 500 or the sporty little Mazda MX-5 but think you need something with a more masculine feel and a powerful engine then you've definitely found a brand that can deliver that.
Because they are a specialist brand that means the cars will hold their value very well, which for you means that you will likely pay less for leasing an Abarth than other manufacturers.
