VW Golf R Lease
A Golf R lease is one of the most popular deals we have ever provided, with incredible discount due to it's strong residual value, the Golf R will remain a popular choice among both personal and business users for a long time. Being the bigger brother to the VW Golf GTI, is there any reason to settle for less?
Why Lease A Golf R?
The Golf R is a strong candidate for the perfect daily driver, but it doesn't come without it's drawbacks. Here are some key points to keep in mind when considering the R.
- Fast accelerating
- Very practical
- Four wheel drive
- Insurance premium
- Understated styling
- Less boot space than a standard Golf
Golf R Specification
Similar to most car manufacturers, Volkswagen also produce their award-winning hatchback in estate form, with both variants sharing the same 2 litre petrol engine. Between the variants there isn't actually much difference in their output however the Golf R Estate is unique in that it is only available with an automatic gearbox (DSG). The Golf R is as agile as it is fast; the majority of your choice will be deciding whether you prefer manual or automatic and the three or five door model. While the three door model does look sportier, this sacrifices practicality and while most people looking for a performance car will take this with a pinch of salt, ultimately the residual value is stronger on the five door model as that extra bit of practicality for everyday use is desirable.

*As a disclaimer, ahead of the recent WLTP changes the specification of the Golf R are susceptible to changing in order meet the new regulations, it's speculated that the power output of the engine will be reduced to 300~ bhp.
AlloysAs for wheels, there are four different designs available. From left to right there are 18" 'Cadiz' (standard) 19" 'Spielberg' (£810) 19" 'Pretoria Black' (£995) and 19" 'Pretoria' (£995). Each of the alloys look incredibly dynamic both while on the move and stationary, the 18" Cadiz alloys are the most popular as they come as standard, with the second most popular choice being the 19" Pretorias. Each set of alloy wheels include anti-theft wheel bolts as expected of a car of this calibre. A noteworthy point when considering larger alloy wheels are the heightened fuel consumption and higher CO2 emissions which could potentially increase the Vehicle Excise Duty (VED).
The Golf R features Pure White (Non Metallic) paint as standard, the only other non metallic paint option is Tornado Red (£285). A range of metallic paints (£575 each) are also available including - Atlantic Blue, Indium Grey, Turmeric Yellow, White Silver, Deep Black, Oryx White and the iconic Lapis Blue (£635). The three most popular colours for the Golf R are the standard Pure White and optional Lapis Blue and Tornado Red, traditionally seen on the VW Golf GTI.
Golf R InteriorOn the inside of the R you may be surprised to learn it has cloth seats as standard. While most will be quick to judge, the Volkswagen Golf is famed for it's high quality cloth seats and great lumbar support, so we would say leather seats are not a necessity. That is not to say, however, that the optional extra leather seats are not worth it, but they will set you back £1,750 for Vienna leather or a further £2,615 for Nappa leather. Both options include heated front seats with lumbar support. Throughout the interior you will see placements of carbon fibre to add to the sportiness.
Extras available for the Golf R are plentiful and modern, the ones that stand out are the R performance titanium exhaust (£2,975), Upgraded infotainment system with Gesture Control (£1,325), Dynamic Chassis Control (£850) and Wireless smartphone charger (£360). The R performance exhaust is an expensive choice however it does sound fantastic, but we'll leave that for you to decide.
Similar cars to consider instead of a VW Golf R would be the BMW M140i,Audi S3, Peugeot 308 GTi, Skoda Octavia vRS, Mercedes A35 AMG, Honda Civic Type R and Mercedes A45 AMG, all of these options sit towards the top of the hot hatchback market.
