Responsible Drinking: Balancing Fun and Safety
Everyone loves to have a couple of drinks with friends and family. Even though moderate drinking is part of our social life it’s very important to understand drinking limitations to make sure you are keeping yourself and everyone else safe.
The drinking limit for the UK is 80milligram of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood of 35 micrograms. However, there is no way to know to keep under the limit as it depends on each person's age, weight, metabolism, and how much a person has had to eat Alcohol affects people in different ways. So, it’s important to know your limit and pace yourself throughout the night.
The safer option is to not drink at all because even one drink can put you over the limit. If you have found yourself having a couple of drinks arrange a different way to get home like getting a taxi or asking a friend or family for a lift.
Drink driving increases the risk of injuries and accidents on the road. Alcohol impairs cognitive function, reaction time and judgement making it incredibly dangerous to drive under the influence. You’re not only putting yourself at risk but other road users and passengers. Going over the limit is a criminal offence that can lead to a serve penalty like a driving ban, fine or even imprisonment.
Having a driving ban could cause newer issues like commuting to work, school runs or even food shops. Having no valid licence can hinder day-to-day life, all because of one night.
