In terms of specific models, the most popular lease car was the Volkswagen Golf due to fantastic residual values on both performance variants (GTI & R) and the SE Nav trim. The Golf has been one of the most popular models on the market for decades and with the next generation model on the horizon we have no doubt that Volkswagen will have continued success - while there are no official photos of the MK8 yet, it's highly likely the model will make its debut at one of the many upcoming motor shows next year. Taking a look back to 2017, the Volkswagen Golf was the second most popular car behind the Volkswagen Polo, which is another consumer favourite and our eighth most popular car this time around.
The second most popular model was the BMW 1 Series, this is mostly due to our frequent deals on the high performance M140i variant, with the occasional 118i M Sport/Sport offer also making an appearance. The 1 Series is another popular hatch that has undergone a face-lift and also has a new M140i also on the way, which is rumoured to be all-wheel drive as opposed to the traditional rear-wheel setup BMW are known for. The popularity of the BMW 1 Series is a huge contrast compared to 2017, where the model didn't quite make it into our top ten!
Much like the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes-Benz C Class Saloon is one of the go-to cars for company car drivers, fleet managers or even just for those wanting something premium for family duties. Performing fairly consistently over both 2017 & 2018, it's highly unlikely that the C Class is going to disappear from our list of top performers anytime soon, especially now the model has had another mid-life refresh with an incredibly modern interior showcased in the new A Class Hatchback & Saloon. While the C Class is also available in Estate, Convertible & Coupe guise, these models weren't quite as popular as the Saloon variant.
The Sportage has been an incredibly popular model since its refresh back in 2014 and is now one of the most popular cross-overs. It's highly favoured for its generous level of equipment, affordable price-point and raised ride height - a real family work horse. We're set to see the next generation model to hit the roads in 2019, featuring sportier styling, updated infotainment system and a slightly more spacious cabin. With its new model on the horizon, we have no doubt that Kia will do well with the Sportage throughout 2019.
Ever since the new model was revealed, there was some serious hype around the new Mercedes A Class. Pre-current models immediately went on offer for our customers to take advantage of, until the model saw enormous success once factory orders opened for the new shape. Shortly before the release of the new model, Mercedes announced that a Saloon variant of the A Class would be joining the range shortly into the hatchback models production life. In 2017 the A Class was our third most popular model - fingers crossed 2019 brings us even stronger residual values for the new shape!
